One Day's My lunch on Oshima

Today is a my day off and the weather is nice. So I decided to have lunch outside. I drove along my favorite Sunset Palmline and decided to have lunch here.

It’s a wonderful place! Because a lot of Isogiku blooming. Isogiku is a specialty of autumn beaches on Oshima. They are tiny yellow flowers, so adorable. The leaves have white borders, and back of the leaves are white, too. I found one more Oshima’s autumn.

One Hour 45 Minutes by High-Speed Jet Ferry from Oshima to Tokyo

I usually take a high-speed jet ferry to go to Tokyo. It arrived at Hamamatsucho after one hour, 45 minutes. It’s so fast. They run at 80 kilometers per hour, right? There are four of them. They are called Ai, Tomo, Tairyo, and Yui. Ai has a pink body, and looks lovely. Yui is the newest and the design is nice. I was able to take Yui this time.

I like to sight outside from the ferry window. When I was starting at Oshima, I saw beautiful Mt.Fuji. And this is my one of favorite views; the cranes at the port of Tokyo. I've always thought that they looks like giraffes. I googled it, and it seems that they're really called, "Sea giraffe”. I didn’t know that!

What Happens to the Black Cat's Owner

I felt my black cat looking at me, but it was the black bag on the floor. I’m thought that my black cat was lying down, but it was the black clothes I took off.

when I woke up needing to go to the bathroom around midnight, I stepped on a black blanket on the floor, but it was actually my black cat sleeping.

Kuri-Chan, I’m deeply sorry!

Oshima’s Halloween

My English teacher who lives in Kansai sent me Halloween photos. It looks fun! I feel that he really enjoys Halloween every year.

Unfortunately, Oshima doesn’t have a Halloween atmosphere. But recently, I found a “Halloweeny" tree!

It was so unique. I named it the Frankenstein Tree. It’s said that after squirrels gnaw at bark, they're able to make marks in horizontal stripes. There are many squirrels on Oshima. So, I often see those marks. But I've never seen them looking like scars before. The timing is perfect!

Ura-Sabaku Desert in the Autumn

I went to Ura-Sabaku in the evening because I wanted to see Japanese pampas grass shining in the setting sun. The wind was strong, so the Japanese pampas grass swayed in the wind. It looks like sea anemones in the sea.

My shadow was so long, I looked like a giant. There was no one but me. I had Ura-Sabaku all to myself. What a beautiful moment!

On the way back, I found a caterpillar that looked more like a fox's tail hair than a pampas grass ear. This was also like autumn.

Sun-Dried Saury Fish at Takeda Store

I found nice things while driving. So, I needed to stop. Many saury fish were drying outside the store. It’s a famous Oshima food. I saw them for the first time today. They are made between autumn and winter. I heard that because of Oshima’s wind, sun, and salt, they taste better than in other places. Yes, it looks good! I bought one set (5 for 980 yen).

Then, I ate the grilled saury fish with beer. It was great! I'm going to being hooked on this taste.

The Little Creatures that Come to My House on Oshima 02 | Centipede

A centipede came out again! I met one in my room for the third time. It’s small this time, about 5 cm. I think it is young.

I’m interested in the life cycle of centipedes, with the mother protecting and raising her young. But I don't want you to do it here. Actually last time, When I was sleeping, I was bitten on my neck by a big one. It really hurt, besides, it felt creepy!

So, I bought centipede repellent immediately on Amazon, though I haven't used it yet.

Now is the time to use it! It’s made from Japanese cypress. I don’t dislike the smell. My cat doesn't care at all. I wonder if is this truly effective?

This is the centipedes repellent.

I Love Gyosan

Gyosan are tough beach sandals for fishery staff. They're originally from Ogasawara, one of Tokyo’s islands. I’ve been a big fan it since I went on a trip there, because they’re comfy, cheap, and really cute! In recent years, I have worn black ones every summer. But, I found new pair on Oshima this summer. They're black with glitter. How pretty!

This is one of my favorite pairs of shoes now. It’s getting cold, recently. I wonder how long I can keep wearing them.

But I didn't wear them today. The weather was bad and cold. Go away, typhoon!!!

Harvest Moon on Oshima

Today is the day of the harvest moon (Chu-shu No Meigetsu). You can see the most beautiful moon of the year. Oshima was rainy in the morning but sunny during the afternoon. So, I was excited that I might be able to see the full moon. When I looked up at the sky after work, as I thought, the round moon was floating in the sky. What a beautiful sight! Just then, a friend of mine living in Tokyo sent me a message with a picture of the moon she had just taken. The scenery is completely different. But, It's strange to think that it’s same moon. Despite that, I love both!

The Oshima Yakitori Restaurant Reminiscent of Koenji

I used to lived in around the Chuo Line area in Tokyo, and was there for a long time. I still love the atmosphere there. Koenji is one of its areas. It has a lot of unique places a lot, such as used clothing shops, used book shops, and many Yakitori (grilled chicken) restaurants. Recently, I found a Yakitori restaurant called yotchan on Oshima. So, it reminded me of when I lived in Koenji. It was like I’m in Koenji still! What's more, I could drink while looking at the sea. What a amazing place! I will certainly go there again.

Places Only in Tokyo | REVELS tokyo Hair&Make Lab

I sometimes return to Tokyo, because I have some special places I go to there. The hair salon called REVELS at Shibuya is one of them. There are uncountable hair salons in Tokyo. But I think this is the best hair salon I have ever been to. Naturally, KIMI is good at haircutting. In addition, he has a strong desire to bring out more beauty of a person through the haircuts. He always changes my negative factors (gray hair, frizz hair, damage hair) to positive. It’s like magic! He is confident. I think this means he makes unflagging efforts. I trust his work with all my heart. I’m not good at being in Shibuya, but I need to keep going there.

Godzilla and Sadako

They are both super-famous movie characters from Oshima. Godzilla is the legendary monster of Odoshima, modeled after Izu Oshima. Sadako was borne of a psychic mother on Oshima. The first time I watched both the movies was after I moved here. They are really classics! I think Oshima’s islanders like Godzilla, because you can see his things at all kinds of places. But, Sadako doesn't have anything like them. So, I feel sorry for her.

It’s a statue of Godzilla at Naganehama Park.

And, this is a Godzilla figurine at the souvenir shop ”Ichimine”.

There is a Godzilla rock at the top of Mt. Mihara.

Kuri-Chan’s Secret

He is a black cat. But honestly, he has a bit of white around only his belly button. I took the picture while he was sleeping. Will you keep it a secret it?

Beware of Oshima’s Cats!

You should be careful of the cats this area. They don't run out onto the road. They are just there on the road all the time. They aren’t scared of cars. I make it a point to slow down when I pass through this place. As expected, there were two cats there today, too. I honked at them. Even then, they wouldn't move. I gave up and I drove onto the oncoming lane to avoid them.
Please be careful, too!

It’s a Fruit and Vegetable Store Called “Buratto House”

It’s one of my favorite places. They sell vegetables produced in Oshima. I’m happy that there are vegetables unique to the island, such as ashitaba, green chili, and passion fruits. They are irregular in size, but they look cute! When I look at them, it feels fun. Most of them will sell out quickly, because they are popular among both islanders and visitors. I tried getting up early to go there today. So, there were many different vegetables! I was excited and I bought too much. What should I do?

Have You Been to The Desert in Japan?

These days, my friend from Tokyo is in Oshima. So, We’ve been to many kinds of places here. Let’s take a look at one of them.

Actually, Oshima has the only desert in Japan. We set foot on it called, “Ura-Sabaku”. It’s a black gravel desert, and has great landscapes! It's like you're in another world. No one was there besides us. It was really exciting!

When I looked at the ground under my feet, all the stones were shining. I learned that they are the result of volcano magma that quickly cooled down after an eruption.

It’s wonderful! Next time, I want to chill out here alone all day.

A Small Fireworks Display on Oshima

I saw the Oshima fireworks festival yesterday, which I'd been looking forward to for a long time. It was just the fireworks, and there were no stands this year. It couldn't be helped. The fireworks were shot off from the port. Nothing shut out the view. I was impressed, because I could see fireworks going off from the ground. Also, it was good that the fireworks don't go up high and are compact. I remembered I saw the Sumida River Fireworks Festival from my balcony last year. I love both the fireworks of the city and countryside.

First Snorkeling at Akinohama on Oshima

I finally went snorkeling today! It was the first time since I moved to Oshima. I felt a sense of wonder wearing a wetsuit. Akinohama is famous for being a great snorkeling and scuba diving location. The water was a little cloudy, but there were many fish, such as schools of fish, some squid, and a myriad of small, young fish. Anyway, It was amazing, and I was excited! Actually, I don’t know most fish names well. And I can’t swim underwater. I was originally not good at swimming. But being in the sea is now one of my favorite things, because while traveling to many islands, I woke up to the fun of snorkeling. I’m satisfled just look at the undersea world.

It’s a sea creature called “Umeboshi (Japanese salt plums) anemone”, whose name even I know. It's a perfect Japanese name! I found it on the beach!

It’s actual Umeboshi.

It’s shutting and looks like Umeboshi!

The little creatures that came to my house on Oshima 01

Huh? I couldn’t believe my eyes. Recently, when I was drinking with dinner at home, I happened to look at the carpet. Just then, a pill bug passed by me like it was busy.

The pill bug is a usual creature in the city of Tokyo, too. But I've never seen them in my home. So, I was really surprised!

I hope my cat doesn’t find you!

Oshima Doesn’t Have a UNIQLO!

You may not know this, but Oshima doesn’t have a Uniqlo. That’s why I didn’t know that Uniqlo started to sell T-shirts of Fujita’s paintings! But unfortunately, they are already sold out! I heard that a friend, who is also a fan, got two of the T-shirts. And, she gave me one of them. She took the trouble to send it to me by post. I’m really happy! Thank you my kind friend! So, I really liked the T-shirt. The cat Fujita painted is really wonderful. It's lively and like a real cat!

When I was taking pictures it, my cat got jealous and disturbed me.

It’s a scary face.

This is his usual face.

No problem Kuri-chan, You are my favorite!

The Beginning of My Oshima Life

Four months have already passed since I moved to Oshima. Time flew by so fast! At first, my new life was really hard. Even though I'm unfamiliar with driving I have to do it, there are no convenience stores, and it’s really humid. I suffered from culture shock every day. Still, what wonderful of nature here! When I walk outside, I can sometimes see the sea. And then I feel happy and I realize, “I live on an island!”. Actually, I love islands. Until now, I’ve been to many of the islands in Japan, such as Yakushima, Iriomotejima, Miyakojima, Tsushima, and Ogasawara islands. But I never imagined that I would live here. I’m really lucky. Although I will live here for a limited time, I will enjoy this life!
